The aim of the International Polar Year (IPY) is to achieve an explosion of research activity and international coordinated and multidisciplinary observations focused in the polar regions of our globe. The IPY arises from an joint initiative of Executive Committees of ICSU (International Council of Scientific Unions) and OMM (Mundial Meteorological Organization).

The following document includes the facts of this endeavor, its objectives and the action that the Argentine Republic will take. In addition, it is included in the last chapter the list of projects in which Argentina will participate.
