The Instituto Antártico Argentino, Dirección Nacional del Antártico, has been supporting the realization of Scientific Meetings, providing by this way researchers with a favorable framework to diffuse their achievements.

During the First Meeting on Antarctic Research Communications in 1987, 60 papers were submitted and published.

In 1991 the Second Meeting on Antarctic Research Communications gathered 81 presentations, further published. Some of these papers belonged to researchers from different universities and institutes working together with IAA’s researchers.

The great increase of national and international cooperation with the IAA about Antarctic region research, was showed in the volume of the Thirth Meeting on Antarctic Research Communications held in 1994, with a total of 90 papers published, most of them as expanded abstracts.

In 1997, the Fourth Meeting on Antarctic Research Communications was held. In this occasion, two volumes presented the different aspects and progress of scientific Antarctic research: the first one about Communications on ongoing studies with 90 presentations, and the second one including Expanded Abstracts with 86 papers, in spanish and english, with the referee of conspicuous science experts.

The 2004 year, when our country commemorates 100 years of the Argentinean presence in Antarctica, is the most opportune moment for holding this V° Argentine and I° Latin-American Symposium where researchers on Antarctic subjects, from our country and from other nations, will present their achievements to the scientific community.
